Amanda Smith

Amanda is a Director at Public Digital. She is a data strategy and digital transformation specialist with a career spanning public, private and nonprofit sectors. 

Before joining Public Digital she led the User Centred Policy Design team of the UK’s Ministry of Justice, where she led the design and delivery of prison video calls and the  Child Arrangements Service. Previously she was Deputy Director for Data & Analysis, establishing the MOJ’s data strategy programme. 

At the Open Data Institute she was a trusted advisor to governments across the world; corporates including Arup, Co-op, Deutsche Bank, Met Office, Syngenta and Thomson Reuters; and led pan-European projects for the EU commission. Amanda developed the data ethics canvas and has written papers on data portals, data ethics, open data challenges, and data infrastructure for banking, legal & weather data. She led the Prime Ministerial commitment to deliver the World's first open crime and justice data platform and was awarded the Chief Constable commendation three times. 

Amanda was the winner of the first Bloomberg WISE Open Technology award from HRH Princess Royal for contributions in data and technology across Europe. She was also named #7 in Apolitical's Top 100 Most Influential Young People in Government.
