Data Maturity Assessment tool
Packages and pricing for cohorts
The Cohort Data Maturity Assessment helps to understand and build data maturity at scale. It is designed for capacity building organisations, funders, and membership and network organisations. It captures an in-depth picture of the current state of data maturity amongst the cohort and identifies shared challenges and opportunities for advancing data maturity in the future.
How does it work?
The cohort lead identifies a group of organisations, typically within a similar field, sector or geography. Cohorts can be any size but must include at least five organisations.
Multiple organisations complete their own organisation assessment together, usually over a 3–6-month period, and gain additional benefits from a collective process and opportunities for collaborative approaches to advancing data maturity in the future.
For the cohort group
We provide an introductory workshop for the leads from each organisation and support them through the entire assessment process. Once assessments have been completed we facilitate a cohort results workshop, sharing the anonymised results and key findings and engaging the cohort in discussion on their next steps.
For each cohort member organisation
Each organisation is provided with a whole organisation assessment. It’s usually our bronze package, though silver or gold packages are also an option. This means we customise each organisation’s assessment and support them to engage their staff before, during and after the assessment.
At the end of the process each cohort member receives:
A summary of data challenges and opportunities for their organisation (identified by their staff)
A headline report (see sample)
A slide deck of around 40 headline charts with the results of their assessment, including:
Internal benchmarking to show how different teams view data maturity
Custom benchmarking against other cohort members
Custom benchmarking against other validated organisations by sector and subsector.
A copy of their data (anonymised or non-anonymised)
For the cohort lead
The cohort lead receives custom analysis and a report on the data maturity of the cohort, plus a copy of the cohort’s response data (usually anonymised). The reporting options range in price from:
a basic mini slide deck with headline cohort findings (Bronze)
a full treasure trove slide deck comparing cohort organisations (Silver)
a full narrative report setting out the results, conclusions and recommendations along with an executive summary (Gold)
Usually there’s a project finale with a presentation of the findings to the cohort and other key stakeholders, with conversation amongst the group focusing on the future.
Pricing and packages for the Cohort DMA
Pricing is per organisation assessment, with a whopping 50% discount for cohorts on our listed prices for bronze, silver and gold assessments. All pricing is based on tiered rates by organisation income (see full pricing details for nonprofit and commercial organisations).
Additional cohort analysis and reporting options range from around £3,000 to £20,000 + VAT, depending on sector and preferences. Do get in touch for a conversation and a quote.
Cohort assessments – part of something bigger!
Sometimes cohort assessments are part of a bigger project or programme of work. Here are some examples:
The Scottish Government has been running its own data maturity programme since 2021. So far six cohorts of public sector organisations have completed Data Orchard’s data maturity assessments as part of a bigger capacity building programme. Each cohort has included 7 to 10 organisations of different sizes and types. Read more about Scotland’s Data Maturity programme and what cohort members have achieved
In Greater Manchester the cohort assessment was part of a wider research project looking at data and intelligence in the VCSE sector. For their cohort assessment, they focused specifically on organisations working with people experiencing severe and multiple deprivation.
The national charity EveryYouth were interested in exploring data capabilities and approaches to impact measurement across a group of youth homeless charities that they fund. This was part of a project exploring the potential for data sharing. Watch EveryYouth’s CEO, Nicholas Connolly, explain in this short video
Superhighways used the cohort data maturity assessment to measure the impact of their Datawise programme. They took a group of small London-based charities through a data literacy and digital skills programme designed to help the organisations make better use of data to shape services and influence change. Cohort organisations completed data maturity assessments at the beginning and again at the end of the 10-month programme.
