Data Orchard's data maturity assessment goes bilingual – powering a new national Navigator for Canadian nonprofits
Our Data Maturity Assessment now sits at the entry point of the Nonprofit Data Capacity Navigator, a free, bilingual service just launched by the Canadian Centre for Nonprofit Digital Resilience (CCNDR).
About the Nonprofit Data Capacity Navigator
The Navigator helps Canadian nonprofits that want to improve their use of data find the right data support for their stage of data maturity. It begins with our data maturity assessment, then connects organisations to journey maps, free expert coaching, and (soon) peer learning cohorts. CCNDR has designed and built the data support to be completely informed by the objective measure the data maturity assessment takes at the start of the process. It's independent and technology-neutral, with no promotion of specific software or vendors, and it’s designed with the realities of nonprofit work in mind.
What makes this launch particularly exciting for us is that the assessment itself is now available in both English and French – a first for Data Orchard's data maturity assessment tool, and an important step in making it genuinely accessible to Canada's bilingual nonprofit sector.
Who supported the development of The Nonprofit Data Capacity Navigator?
The Navigator is backed by a strong coalition of partners and funders, co-ordinated by the CCNDR. We’ve been delighted to work with our long-term fellow data champions: Purpose Analytics, Blueprint, PolicyWise for Children & Families, and Tamarck Institute to support their work. That scale of backing is what makes it possible to offer the Navigator free, bilingually, and with ongoing coaching, rather than a one-off tool.
This builds on work we've long believed in: that no organisation should have to start its data journey alone, and that the right assessment – used well – can be the first step toward lasting change, not just a one-off diagnostic. Seeing it now live, bilingual, and embedded in a national support ecosystem in Canada is a brilliant example of our vision for a collaborative partnership approach to championing data for good across the world.
How could the data maturity assessment be adapted for you?
Curious how a data maturity assessment could anchor a similar initiative in your network, region, or country? Get in touch – we'd love to talk it through.
What do the people scaling data maturity nationally say about their experience?
If you want to hear directly from the people behind The Navigator in Canada, and the Data Maturity Programme in Scotland, join us for Scaling data maturity across nations: Lessons from Scotland and Canada – a free, hour-long session with our Canadian partners and Shona Nicol (Scottish Government), including a live Q&A.
